Citizens Invited to Provide Input on Davidson Development Partners’ Luminous Proposal for the Beaty Street Property: Monday, March 27

Citizens are invited to a meeting on the proposed Luminous development  led by developer Davidson Development Partners on Monday, March 27 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Davidson Town Hall board room. Citizens will be able to have a conversation with Davidson Development Partners’ principal Rick Mildner to share their thoughts on the proposed development on the 19 acres of town-owned land along Beaty Street.

In 2015 and 2016, the Town of Davidson was approached by a church and a developer to purchase the approximately 19 acres of land along Beaty Street. The town acquired the largest parcel in 1987, two adjoining parcels in 1995 and 1998, and two parcels at the northeast corner of the property in 2006 and 2009, with the hopes of developing them into a mixed-use neighborhood with park space in the future. As a result of this interest, the Davidson Board of Commissioners asked staff to undertake a competitive, open process to see if there was any other interest in developing this land. A formal request for proposals (RFP) for the purchase and development of land was issued in August 2016. The town requested proposals from experienced developers to design and build a mixed-use neighborhood on the Beaty Street property. We received nine letters of interest in September and six proposals in January. A committee reviewed the proposals, determined whom to interview, and, based on the interviews, recommended a finalist. The finalist is Davidson Development Partners, led by James Harvie, Rick Mildner, and Chip Nisbet with their “Luminous” proposal for the property.
