PJ's and Paintbrushes

Parents, could you use a night out? Then make plans to drop off your young artist, dressed in their cozy pajamas, for an evening of creative fun. While you are off enjoying some quiet time, your student will be set up with everything needed to create a seasonal themed project. Using 11x14 canvases, participants will experiment with oodles of acrylic paints and paintbrushes to create a special art piece with a little bit of whimsy!

Afterschool Skateboarding

Join skate school- An afterschool program to teach kids how to learn basic and beginner skateboarding tricks and tips, as well as gain confidence tenacity, and a sense of community. This program is for all skill levels. Kids will need a skateboard and protective gear to get started. DPR staff will pick-up students from DES and walk them to the program. ages 8-12

Afterschool FUNdamentals of Girls Basketball

Basketball FUNdamentals for girls will focus on developing basketball skills, learning the game, building confidence and expanding friendships all while having FUN. Come and experience the joy of playing and learning. Basketball FUNdamentals for girls with run five-weeks. Please bring your own basketball to each session. Instructed by Beth McNamee. Ages 10-11

Time:         4:00 - 5:00 p.m. 

Beginner Bike Repair 

This course is intended for students with little or no bicycle maintenance experience. Never fixed a flat before? Unsure of when to clean your chain? Brakes are a mystery to you? This 1.5-hour course covers bike anatomy, brakes and shifters, wheel removal, tire & tube replacement, cleaning the bike, and lubricating the chain. Bring your own bike to work on and wear clothes you won’t mind getting dirty. Age 12 and older.

Afterschool Basketball 

Coach Kyle Verlin is a Davidson Elementary School teacher with over 15 years’ experience working with children and young adults in the classroom as well as on the basketball court. This 5-week program will focus on developing player’s basketball “IQ” and skill development in a fun, positive environment. This program will involve drills that work on both team and individual skills, as well as offensive and defensive team concepts. DPR staff will pick-up students from DES and walk them to the program.

Afterschool Karate/Self-Defense

At Prime Defense Martial Arts Academy, the three key items taught when it comes to anti-bullying are: awareness, communication and self-defense. This program is about learning skills to help your child build self-confidence, boost self-esteem and encourage positive self-assessment. There are many tactics we teach that are not physical, such as, using stances, tone and diction to convey confidence.

Now Hiring - Recreation Aide

The Parks and Recreation team is looking for seasonal part-time assistance for variety of programs and events, on an "as needed" basis. This position would perform a variety of tasks in support of any one of several Parks and Recreation Department functional program areas including: setting up for program activities and serving as on-site leader, maintaining facilities and equipment, watercraft rentals, score keeping, and performing unskilled clerical work and other duties relating to conducting programs.
