The Town of Davidson Launches Open Town Hall:
Online Platform Offers Citizens Opportunity to Share Views

The Town of Davidson has launched Open Town Hall, an online platform designed to engage citizens in a conversation that will harness their input on important town projects and issues.

Town officials and staff will use this public input to help guide their decision-making process. Further, the town aims to engage citizens by providing them information on each issue and provide more opportunities for citizen interaction and engagement.

"Since we have such an engaged citizenry and so many people are online, we want them to be part of the decision-making process using this new system," said Town Manager Leamon Brice. "We know people are extremely busy and cannot always attend meetings, so this is an incredibly effective way to educate citizens and empower them to participate in town decisions from their own device when it’s convenient for them."

The first topic on Open Town Hall asks “How can the Town of Davidson better communicate with you?” You can access Open Town Hall directly from our website by clicking the green “Open Town Hall” icon in the center right of our homepage at www.townofdavidson.org. You can read what others are saying about the topic, and share your own opinion. You can also access our Open Town Hall portal at http://peakdemocracy.com/3087. Citizens will need to join by logging in with an email address, will receive an email from Peak Democracy for activation, and can choose to post a comment to the topic with or without his or her name.

Peak Democracy, a company based in California, developed the online platform. Its mission is to broaden civic engagement and build public trust in government. More than 100 other government agencies in the US, Canada and Australia are using Open Town Hall including Pinehurst, NC, Decatur, GA, Ann Arbor, MI, Palo Alto, CA, Saint Paul, MN, and Salt Lake City UT.
