Town of Davidson Announces New Employees

The Town of Davidson announces the hiring of six new employees to the staff:  James Adams in the parks and recreation department, Jennifer Fielder and Pieter Swart in administration, Trey Akers and Chad Hall in planning, and Lorena Arce in the police department.

“We are excited to welcome these new employees to our staff,” said Town Manager Leamon Brice. “They all bring a great deal of experience that allows our town government to keep pace with current town growth.”

James Adams
James Adams

James Adams joined the parks and recreation department in November 2014 as a recreation program supervisor. He has a bachelor of science in recreation and park management from East Carolina University and most recently served as a park ranger in Waxhaw, NC, with the Union County Parks and Recreation Department. As recreation program supervisor, James manages existing relationships with and finds new contractors for our parks and recreation programs, and has a lifelong interest in outdoor adventures.  For the first time this summer, we’re offering an all-day, week-long outdoor adventure camp for “tweens” and teens, led by James.  He lives in Davidson, enjoys being involved with his church, cycling, kayaking and spending time with his family.

Jennifer Fielder
Jennifer Fielder

Jennifer Fielder serves as a part-time project assistant in our administration department and has been with us since March 2015. She has a bachelor of arts in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a master’s degree in English and communication from East Carolina University. She provides assistance to the town manager, assistant town manager, town clerk, economic development manager and public information officer, and works on special projects like website maintenance, communications, and contracts. Jennifer lives in Davidson, enjoys hiking at Fisher Farm with her two dogs, following current events, and spending time with friends and family in Davidson and Charlotte. She is also an online English and writing instructor for the University of Phoenix.

Pieter Swart
Pieter Swart

Pieter Swart is our new Finance Director who will replace Cindy Jones when she retires on June 30. “We are so thankful for the excellent service of Cindy Jones for the past three-and-a-half years, and wish her well in her retirement,” said Town Manager Leamon Brice. “We welcome Pieter to the team and feel confident that his experience in the field of finance will serve us well.”

Pieter has bachelor of science degrees in finance and accounting from Florida State University and is a licensed CPA. He most recently served as the CFO of Barium Springs (now Children’s Hope Alliance) and currently serves as the Vice President and Treasurer for Beat Kids Cancer and Pieter’s Pals, two organizations he founded with his wife to provide support for pediatric cancer research and families with children fighting cancer. The Finance Director is a statutory position in town government and Pieter will oversee all aspects of town finance including the budget and capital improvement plan, daily accounting, payroll, and revenue allocation. He is excited about being able to give back to the town that gave his family so much over the years, and looks forward to being part of the future of Davidson.  He lives in Davidson with his wife and stepson, serves on the McConnell homeowners’ association, and enjoys college sports and any international competitions involving the USA.

Trey Akers
Trey Akers

Trey Akers started in our planning department on May 11 as a senior planner and has a bachelor of arts from Davidson College and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.  He joins us from the City of Alexandria, Virginia where he was a planner. As senior planner he’ll focus on helping property owners understand the town’s regulations and work to get the best development possible for their site while keeping the town’s interests intact. Trey will serve as the liaison to the planning board, and will prepare staff analyses regarding development projects or other planning-related issues for the planning board and board of commissioners. He’ll also work on long-range planning, including the creation of small area plans. Trey is married and has an eight-month-old daughter, just purchased a home in Davidson, and enjoys running, hiking, picnics, and playing tennis and beach volleyball.

Chad Hall

Chad Hall is a senior planner in the planning department who started on June 1. He received a bachelor of arts in architecture with a minor in geography from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and joins us most recently from serving as a senior planner for the Village of Pinehurst. His main role will be as the liaison to the Design Review Board, reviewing the design of all new commercial construction, working with developers, and interpreting and enforcing the design regulations in our planning ordinance. Chad has a long history with Davidson: he came here while a student with his sketch book because he liked drawing our historic downtown and he worked on the Davidson Land Plan in the early 1990s while a student of David Walters.  He was later employed at The Lawrence Group, a firm that specializes in architecture, interior design, and urban planning located on Main Street. He lives in Davidson with his dog, enjoys playing golf and guitar, hikes, kayaks, and likes being outdoors.  He looks forward to carrying on Davidson’s tradition of good planning.

Lorena Arce started on June 1 as our Police Records Clerk in the police department where she tracks all citations, warnings, and arrests, and manages our property and evidence room. You will also see her at the receptionist’s desk, where her ability to speak Spanish will enable us to better serve our Latino citizens. She has a bachelor of arts in Latin American studies with a minor in political science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and comes to us from a law firm where she served as a legal assistant. Lorena lives in Davidson with her husband, has a rescue dog, and enjoys volunteer work.
