Basic Sewing

In this beginner-friendly course, participants will learn techniques such as cutting squares, applique, and more. Projects will be determined by participant interest and skill level. This course is taught by long-time seamstress Katie Chichester. Call 704-892-3349 if you need a loaner sewing machine. Supply list will be emailed to all participants. Ages 9 and older.

Sushi 101

Have you ever wanted to roll your own sushi but felt intimidated by ingredients or the process? Sabi Asian Bistro’s manager, Ken Song, would love to share his experience with you. Sushi 101 will teach you the basics of sushi -- learn the difference between types of sushi, how to select sushi-grade fish, where to buy ingredients, how to make rice, and finally how to make two different kinds of basic rolls that you will get to prepare and eat.

Chair Caning

Learn the old-world craft of weaving bamboo strips into a beautiful and strong work of art from artist Patricia Wasylyna. Create comfortable seating and backing for an opened framed chair or stool. You will need to bring a chair or stool with you to all classes. Call 704-892-3349 if you are unable to obtain a chair or stool. All participants must bring sharp scissors and a small bucket or water pail to each class. Ages 18 and older.

Introduction to Floral Design

Led by Nancy and Marina of Bella Grace Floral, this one-time workshop will provide students with an understanding of basic floral design to include the care and handling of flowers, how to choose flowers appropriate for an arrangement, color compatibility and choice, and the techniques associated with designing an arrangement. Each student will be provided with a vase and the ingredients to create their own floral design. Ages 18 and older.

Introduction to Fishing

Get out of the house and connect with friends and family while fostering an appreciation for our natural resources. Staff will lead an introductory fishing lesson and will also remain on site to assist anglers. Fishing gear and bait will be provided by staff. State issued fishing licenses required for participants age 16 and older. All ages are welcome.

Fisher Farm Campout 

Join the Davidson Parks and Recreation Department for a rare opportunity to camp out at 200-acre Fisher Farm Park. Attendees must bring their own food and camping equipment. Fee is per person. Participants will be emailed an itinerary of the evening’s events and a map where to pitch their tents. Youth must be accompanied by an adult (age 18 and older).

Fisher Farm Family Bike Fest

Enjoy a fun-filled, family-friendly day of riding. Check out all the gadgets and gear and see the latest mountain bikes. Riders of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. Bring your bike, helmet, family and friends - have a blast! This event is held as part of Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day.

This event includes:

  • Local trail rides led by Tarheel Trailblazers,
  • Kid-Friendly Courses,
  • Bicycle Rodeo & Skills area,
  • Area bicycle advocacy pursuits from Charlotte Youth Cycling League (CYCL),
  • Folks from the local teams and state program with North Carolina Interscholastic Cycling League,
  • Local bicycle shops,
  • Local foods, and
  • Live music.
