Environmental Science 

We will immerse ourselves in our local environment, learning about nature and human innovation, with the goal of preserving natural resources through creativity, art, science, and problem-solving. Can we figure out where our runoff water goes? Identify a nearby wetland that needs protection? Eradicate invasive plants to increase ecosystem biodiversity? Yes! Let's take what we learn and come up with new ways to make our future greener. Grades 2nd – 5th.

Writers Club

Participants will write several original short stories through the use of games, activities, crafts, art and lots of laughs. Each student will leave with a bound book of their stories and illustrations to treasure. This curriculum will emphasize writing techniques such as character development, setting, and plot. Grades 1st - 4th.

Fencing

Come learn the fast-paced and exciting sport of Olympic Fencing. Students learn footwork, basic blade work and some of the tactics involved in fencing. Students get to try out their newly learned skills by bouting against each other. All equipment is provided by the Charlotte Fencing Academy. This class is designed for beginning and returning students alike. Ages 8 - 16.

Outdoor Adventure: West Branch Nature Preserve

In partnership with the Davidson Lands Conservancy, we are pleased to offer a wonderful variety of hikes this fall, led by expert naturalists. This is a great opportunity to visit protected land in and around the Town of Davidson and to learn more about your local greenways, parks, and nature preserves.

Join Tricia Brown as she helps you create a fall-themed deco mesh door wreath. All supplies are included (14” ring, orange mesh, pipe cleaner, and lots of ribbon options). Feel free to bring extra decorating items.

Oil Painting 

Let's paint! All skill levels are welcomed! Join us for an exciting experience painting with oils. This class will explore the use of color as well as traditional and contrary materials and techniques. Please bring a photo or a muse of something you wish to paint. Instructor Judith Brown earned her BFA from the University of Denver as well as her MFA from the University of Wyoming and has taught art professionally for more than 30 years.

We will be specifically focused on plants that are adaptogens and support your nervous system. Expect sustainable transformation of your mind, body, and spirit by incorporating plant medicine into your daily life. Ages 15 and older.
