Road Construction Affecting Davidson The state is embarking on a road construction project that will affect Davidson: the I-77 managed lanes project. Town of Davidson staff meets regularly with developer I-77 Mobility Partners, general contractor Sugar Creek Construction, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to mitigate impacts as much as possible. Crews installed concrete safety barriers near the median in both directions and construction activities have begun in the median. Construction of the I-77 managed lanes will occur in the median of I-77 with minimal disruption to commuters. I-77 Mobility Partners have notified us that occasional lane closures will only take place in overnight hours. However, with day and night activity in the work zone, motorists should drive safely, avoid cell phone usage and other distractions, stay alert at all times, and plan ahead. We want our Davidson citizens to be safe throughout this process. We encourage citizens to visit I-77 Mobility Partners’ website at: http://www.i77express.com/ We encourage citizens to sign up for their email updates to stay informed of their project at: http://www.i77express.com/newsroom/newsletter-e-alerts/
*** TRAFFIC NOTICE FROM I-77 MOBILITY PARTNERS ***
Upcoming Traffic Pattern Changes on the I-77 Southbound Off-Ramp and the I-77 Northbound On-Ramp at Exit 30 in Davidson
Charlotte, N.C. (September 1, 2017) – Crews are preparing to slightly shift traffic on two ramps on I-77 at Exit 30 in Davidson. These shifts will allow crews to continue the construction of the new Griffith Street bridge. At the end of next week, the I-77 southbound Exit 30 off-ramp will experience a temporary slight traffic shift to the west. The following week, the I-77 northbound on-ramp at Exit 30 will experience a permanent slight traffic shift to the east. Motorists travelling eastbound on Griffith Street towards Davidson will no longer be able to turn left on the eastside of the bridge. Motorists must continue east towards Davidson and use the roundabout to take I-77 northbound.
*Traffic shifts are subject to weather conditions and major special events in the region.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit and work zone signs, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.

Once the project is complete, dedicated express lanes will run adjacent to the existing general purpose lanes. The number of general purpose lanes will remain the same as today. Drivers will have the choice of using the express lanes to avoid travel delays, the general purpose lanes or a combination of both. Vehicles with three or more occupants (including the driver) and equipped with a transponder may use the express lanes for free. The full 26-mile project is slated to be completed in 2018.
